Let's debate: podcast style
With a full week of no Flyer Basketball, management at UDFlyerNation thought this would be the perfect time to debut the third contributor to the blog.
He is internet celebrity and Flyer expert Rick Scaia. Rick, who formerly handled the professional wrastling department for CBS.sportsline.com can now be found over at OnlineOnslaught where he currently earns a living writing about steroid injected, greased men in underpants throwing each other around a ring.
We are fortunate enough to have Rick put down the steel chair and join UDFlyerNation this year. Rick will be a breath of fresh air to you stat geeks out there as he highlights all the numbers you never knew existed. Rick will also serve as our Information Technology Director as one day we will be taking the .blogspot out of our name. It's a thankless job but we're happy to have him aboard.
Without further ado, listen in as Rick joins Secaur and I to discuss a number of pressing Flyer issues including:
-What can we do to get Chris Wright out of his funk?
-How damaging will the Luke injury be?
-Should you be happy with the current OOC schedule?
-What are the Flyer's chances of being ranked before New Mexico?
-Who are the Flyer's most efficient players?
-Biggest disappointment of the year?
-And much, much more...

It's "without further ado..."
ReplyDeleteFixed - thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is big time. Guess I needs to start wearing jerseys without sleeves!
ReplyDeleteHayseed is in
ReplyDeleteFirst Puerto Rico, then Alabama...the Chris Wright jersey ain't never gonna go nowhere.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the podcast Rick. Me likey.
ReplyDeleteDoes trying to force one-on-one action and getting to the rim cause the high turnover rate for Wright? Its tough to find the balance between being aggressive and letting the game come to you.
Whoever said that losing to New Mexico would result in the Flyers remaining unranked for the rest of the year is spot on. UD lost to two teams in the top 40 or so at the time and dropped around 20 spots in the rankings. Losing to a team from outside the big 6 regardless of their record will knock Dayton off the grid. I guess it's possible that they sneak back in right before the conference tournament, but I think Mr. Parrish made a strong case for the uphill battle that faces the Flyers and their ranking if they lose on New Year's. And that's not the end of the world. The team seems to play better when it feels slighted.
ReplyDeleteOT, is "frencher" supposed to be capitalized?
I don't think that's giving the voters enough credit. If you go 12-3 in the noncon schedule with losses to Villanova, K-State and New Mex (all of those games either road or neutral), 3 teams who have 2 losses combined, you're going to get some respect.
ReplyDeleteAfter the inevitable loss at XU, Dayton has a stretch of 5 straight winnable games. Go 5-0 there and the Flyers would be around 19-4 culminating with a home win against XU on February 6th. I'd look for them to re-enter the top 25 at that point.
Good point Secaur.
ReplyDeleteHowever, why would you give voters credit? I guess I don't blame them, I don't really expect these guys to know EVERYTHING about college hoops but I don't see Dayton getting the respect.
I'm basing this off of past years where we would get close and then a loss would crush us.
We only have 2 games and two Mondays to be voted into the top 25 before New Mexico, I don't see that happening.
Win @New Mex and I think we go into not only top 25 but top 20.
Your logic and reasoning is SPOT on. I just hope voters see it the same way you do (which is the correct way). Let's say we lose that New Mex game (where we will be ranked 28ish) voters will see the loss and knock us back down to 40ish.
Even if we run the table until @X, that is a loss so we get knocked back down again.
Then comes the streak you speak of. If we win 5 straight including a win over X - I'd say you have a heck of a chance of being right on this one.
The only thing holding you back? Having the Flyers win the games they are supposed to win and rolling off 5 straight in conference play.
IF, this happens I will be so happy about the Flyers I'll toot your horn (no homo) til the cows come home.
Are you purposely trying to sound more like a redneck now?
